ScrollRank — Privacy Policy
Effective date: 8 September 2026
ScrollRank is a satirical screen-time app that counts how many short videos you watch
across Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and TikTok, and ranks you against friends. It is
developed and operated by Muhammad Ehsan, an independent developer, who is responsible for
the data described below. This policy explains exactly what data the app touches, what
leaves your phone, and what never does.
What we collect and why
- Short-video counts. With your explicit consent, ScrollRank uses
Android's Accessibility service to detect when the Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts or
TikTok player is on your screen, and counts a video watched for 3 seconds or more. It
looks at those three apps only, and only at their short-video players: ordinary YouTube
videos are not counted, and no other app on your phone is examined. You can switch any
of the three off in Settings, after which it is not counted, stored or uploaded.
The raw activity, which videos, when and for how long, stays on your
device. Only your aggregate daily counts per platform and total watch seconds
are uploaded, to place you on the leaderboard.
- Account data. If you sign in with Google we receive your email
address and a unique account ID. If you continue as a guest, an anonymous account ID is
created with no personal details.
- Profile you choose. A username, and your mascot's cosmetics. The
username is required: ScrollRank asks you to pick one before you can use the app, and it
is the name everyone sees on the leaderboard. Your username, mascot and weekly video
count are visible to other users there, which is the point of the app,
so choose a username you are comfortable showing publicly.
What we do NOT collect
- No message contents, passwords, or any on-screen content from Instagram, YouTube,
TikTok or any other app. The accessibility service only reacts to the short-video player
appearing and disappearing.
- No contacts, location, advertising identifiers, or browsing history.
- No data from other apps on your device.
Where data lives
Server data (account, daily counts, friendships) is stored with Supabase, which hosts our
database and server functions on our behalf. All writes go through validated server
functions; other users can only ever see your public leaderboard profile.
Third parties
We use two service providers, and only for the purposes described here:
- Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and server functions.
- Google Sign-In — if you choose to sign in with Google, Google
authenticates you and provides us your email address and account ID. Guest mode does
not involve Google.
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for advertising
or profiling. There are no ads, analytics SDKs, or trackers in ScrollRank.
Security
All data sent between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS.
Data stored on our servers is protected by access rules that prevent any user from reading
another user's data beyond the public leaderboard profile described above.
How long we keep data
Your account, scores, and friendships are kept for as long as your account exists.
Leaderboard results are kept as part of your weekly history until your account is deleted.
When you delete your account, all of it is removed from our servers immediately — see
below. Deleting the app without deleting your account does not remove your server data;
use the in-app delete option if that is what you want.
Your controls
- Turn tracking off in your phone's Accessibility settings, which stops
the service entirely. You can also switch Instagram, YouTube or TikTok off individually
in ScrollRank Settings, and anything switched off there is not counted, stored or
uploaded.
- Sign out in Settings → Account.
- Delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete account. This
permanently removes your account, scores, friendships, and leaderboard history from our
servers, immediately.
Children
ScrollRank is not directed at children under 13. Do not use the app if you are under 13.
If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at the address below and
we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll note it here with a new effective date.
